In September 2019, creative studio and social enterprise Figuration opened a new gallery space in West Norwood Library & Picturehouse to exhibit and promote art from South London artists. Now in 2020, two new artists have come to host their work. In her exhibition Queer, Sarah Jane Moon's limited edition prints - signed, numbered and titled by the artist - represent a cross section of contemporary queer LGBTQ+ life and love. The people depicted are often those whom she admires greatly for their commitment to live authentically and forge ahead in their chosen industry. They include Dr Ronx, an emergency medical doctor, TV presenter, writer and trans advocate; Juno Roche; performers Bird La Bird and Krishna Istha; artists Stav B and Roxana Halls; landscape designer Charlotte Harris; and the artist herself. Together they create a powerful statement on contemporary life lived with pride.
Soon It Would Be Too Hot. by Graham Martin is a series of work responding to JG Ballard's prescient 1962 novel The Drowned World, in which Graham explores the parallels between the post-apocalyptic environment Ballard depicts and our increasingly uncertain future.
Both exhibitions are free to view, and both limited edition prints and originals of some of the works displayed are on sale now - please contact hello@figuration.co for all sales enquiries. The venue is fully accessible.
