From bold mark making to precision drawing, discover the expressive power of charcoal as you capture the human form. Working with a variety of life models, artist Leo Crane will guide you through exercises that encourage experimentation and creative interpretation.
We start by looking at different approaches to drawing the figure. You will then make your first drawings in a speedy succession of mark making exercises. Over the weekend, we will look at gesture, pose, proportion and composition. By the end of the course, you will have learnt how to depict the body confidently and creatively, leaving with a portfolio of your own drawings.
Each day includes a delicious vegetarian lunch and a chance to share your work in progress with the group.
No experience is necessary. Bold mark making and a willingness to experiment will help you get the most from this course. For those with life drawing experience, the course offers you the chance to develop and apply your skills in an experimental context.
